Reclaiming My Time

I recently taped an episode on to-be published web series, called “Reclaiming My Time”.

Of course years ago this phrase was coined by Congresswoman Maxine Waters during a contentious Congressional session. But it resonated with me and so many of my friends!

For me, it’s an intolerance for folks who gaff me and my time off. Whether it be a skipped agreed upon appointment, lack of a TIMELY response to a text or email or insistence on asking me to do something that I’ve already conveyed a firm NO THANKS to.

My time is important too! And when I carve out a precious piece of my time for someone, I expect common and/or professional courtesy in return. I also expect the understanding that no means no. So go ask someone else.

It’s not that hard.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve really developed a shortened level of patience for this. And one of the ways I’ve handled this situation is to shuffle this lack of courtesy back into the universe where it belongs, and kept it moving.

I try not to let someone’s ignorance or inability to “read the room” be my problem. Someone else can deal with it. I’m too grown and too old for mess.

Of course, I convey my expectation that common courtesy leads the way in the future, but After that, I don’t dwell on it.

I’m way too busy to have it steal my joy and once I’m past the initial aggravation, I direct my energy where it best belongs: onto doing things that make me happy and/or fulfill my purpose.

At the moment these things keep me quite occupied: focusing on spending quality time with family, completing coursework, creating content, crafting, writing, traveling, focusing on my health & wellness.

I remain firm in my stance to reclaim my time and not get a whole lot of energy to those things that don’t warrant the attention.

It’s all about joy and sharing space with those who share a mutual appreciation.

Today is a jam packed day with my oldest Diva, featuring thrifting, reading, creating, washing/braiding hair and lounging by the pool.
